First Development Release Of Parole Media Player 0.6 Is Out, Install It In (X)Ubuntu
The first development release of Parole Media Player 0.6 (version 0.5.90) was released recently, bringing changes such as: improved GStreamer 1.0 support, completed the port to GTK3, a nice new overlay for the playback controls and more.
Parole is the default Xfce / Xubuntu media player. It's based on the GStreamer framework and features playback of local media files, DVD/CDs and live streams.
Changes in Parole Media Player 0.5.90:
- completed port to GTK+ 3;
- fixed GStreamer 1.0 support;
- the playback controls now use a nice GtkOverlay;
- use symbolic icons for menus and plugins;
- added ability to play DVD ISO files form the Open Dialog;
- window dimensions are no longer saved when maximizing the window;
- added a new Xfconf setting “window-maximized” to keep your preferred maximization across sessions;
- rearranged and improved the menubar;
- improved playlist (an inline-toolbar is now used, removed the settings button and added Move Up/Down buttons);
- added Previous/Next track actions to the Tray and Notification plugins;
- updated artwork (background image and icons);
- improved plugin failure detection so users know something has gone wrong.

Install Parole 0.5.90 in (X)Ubuntu
The latest Parole 0.5.90 is available in the Xfce 4.12 development PPA. To use this PPA, you must also add the Xfce 4.10 PPA, which has some updated packages, even for Xubuntu versions that already ship with Xfce 4.10.
Warning for Xfce users: adding these PPAs will update quite a few packages, such as Xfwm4, Xfce4-settings and more! Take a look at the packages available in these PPAs before adding them: Xfce 4.12 PPA | Xfce 4.10 PPA.
To add the Xfce 4.10 and 4.12 PPAs and install the latest Parole Media Player in (X)Ubuntu 13.10, 13.04, 12.10 or 12.04, use the commands below:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.12
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install parole
