Pushbullet Indicator Gets Option To Reply To SMS, WhatsApp And Telegram, Full Universal Copy And Paste Support
Pushbullet Indicator was updated today with new features like bidirectional universal copy and paste, option to send SMS from the desktop and more.
Pushbullet is a service that lets you easily send files, links, notes, list and more to your Android or iOS device from your desktop or the other way around. The tool can also be used share the clipboard between your desktop and mobile device (feature called "Universal copy & paste"), mirror Android notifications on your desktop and more.
Note that some Pushbullet features, like replying to SMS, WhatsApp and Telegram from the desktop is not yet supported on iOS.
On Linux desktops, Pushbullet is available as a browser extension and there's no official native application. For this reason, Lorenzo from Atareao.es started working on Pushbullet Indicator, an unofficial Pushbullet Ubuntu client, which has now reached version 0.6.0.

Changes in Pushbullet Indicator 0.6.0:
- Universal copy & paste is now bidirectional (until now, this only worked one way: copying something on your Android device and pasting it on the Ubuntu desktop). For this feature to work, you need to enable Universal copy & paste in both Pushbullet Indicator and the Pushbullet app on your mobile device;
- send SMS from the desktop. Important: using this feature, the SMS is sent via your mobile phone so it doesn't mean that the SMS is free! Unfortunately, to use this feature, you must know the phone number because Pushbullet Indicator doesn't retrieve your contacts list;
- reply to Whatsapp, Telegram and SMS from the desktop (you must enable this from the Pushbullet Indicator settings);
- you can now select the device to send text/links/files/etc. from the PushBullet send dialog.
Here are a few screenshots with some of these changes:
In my test, the latest Pushbullet Indicator worked great but there is one thing that could be tweaked: currently, when receiving an SMS or message via Telegram or WhatsApp, the Pushbullet Indicator reply window doesn't display the service name so you don't know where the message comes from but hopefully the service name or logo will be added in a future release (I reported the bug HERE).
Install Pushbullet Indicator in Ubuntu 15.04, 14.10 or 14.04 / Linux Mint 17.1 or 17 Cinnamon
Before proceeding, install Pushbullet on your Android or iOS device.
Pushbullet Indicator is available in the Atareao PPA for Ubuntu 15.04, 14.10 and 14.04 / Linux Mint 17.1 and 17 (Cinnamon only). Add the PPA and install the indicator using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pushbullet-indicator
Once installed, run Pushbullet Indicator and an authentication dialog should show up automatically - here, log in to your PushBullet account authorize Pushbullet Indicator to access your Pushbullet profile and data.
If this window doesn't open automatically, from the Pushbullet Indicator settings, set the "Allow access to PushBullet" slider to ON and authenticate with Pushbullet.

The PPA also provides Nautilus and Nemo extensions for Pushbullet (which you can use to send files directly from Nautilus or Nemo to your mobile device). These extensions are optional and Pushbullet doen't depend on the file manager you use. Install them using the following commands:
- for Nautilus:sudo apt-get install nautilus-pushbullet
nautilus -q
- for Nemo:sudo apt-get install nemo-pushbullet
nemo -q

Pushbullet Indicator Gets Android Notification Mirroring Support, Other Changes
Pushbullet Indicator was updated recently with support for the latest Pushbullet API changes, which include OAuth support and notification mirroring from Android to your computer.
For those not familiar with Pushbullet, this is a service that lets you easily send files, links, notes, lists, etc. from your iOS or Android device to your desktop or the other way around. It can be used via Chrome / Firefox extensions and for Windows there's also a desktop app. Because there was no native Linux app, Lorenzo from Atareao.es created an Ubuntu AppIndicator (and a Nautilus extension as a companion for the AppIndicator) to easily use Pushbullet in Ubuntu.
Changes in the latest Pushbullet Indicator 0.4.0:
- OAuth support: you no longer have to login to the Pushbullet website, copy the APi key and introduce it into the app, etc. You simply log in when prompted by the AppIndicator and that's it;
- notification mirroring: receive notifications from your Android (doesn't support iOS!) device on your desktop for phone calls, messages, notifications from third-party apps, etc;
- you can now send pushes (files, links, notes, etc.) from your mobile device to the desktop, feature which wasn't available in the previous Pushbullet Indicator release. Furthermore, you can send pushes between any connected device (so even from one desktop to another). To see the pushes sent to the desktop, you need to select "Show last push" from the Pushbullet AppIndicator menu.
Note that I couldn't test the new Android notification mirroring feature because my old Android device (Samsung Galaxy S II) broke, so the notification screenshot below is via atareao.es.
Here are a few screenshots with some of the changes mentioned above:

Install Pushbullet Indicator in Ubuntu 14.04 or Linux Mint 17 CInnamon
According to Lorenzo, the app developer, Pushbullet Indicator should work properly not only with Unity, but also with the KDE, LXDE and Xfce Ubuntu flavors. Also, I tested it with both Linux Mint 17 MATE and Cinnamon and I can tell you that it works with Cinnamon but unfortunately it doesn't work with MATE.
Pushbullet Indicator is available in the Atareao PPA for Ubuntu 14.04 and derivatives or Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon. Add the PPA and install the indicator using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pushbullet-indicator
To also install the Pushbullet Nautilus extension (you can use it to send files directly from Nautilus to your mobile device), use the command below:
sudo apt-get install nautilus-pushbullet
Important notes:
- Pushbullet Indicator and the Pushbullet Nautilus extension must be authenticated separately;
- after adding a new device, you may need to restart the indicator (select "Quit" and then start it again from the menu / Dash) and Nautilus (to restart Nautilus, type "nautilus -q" in a terminal).

Pushbullet Indicator Gets (Partial) Universal Copy & Paste Support
Pushbullet Indicator was updated today with a cool new feature: it now partially supports Pushbullet's recent universal copy & paste feature.
Universal Copy & Paste allows you to copy a link or some text from a device and paste it on another device. For now, this feature only works one way with Pushbullet Indicator: you can copy a link or some text on your Android device and then paste it on your Ubuntu desktop, but it doesn't work the other way around, because the Pushbullet API doesn't allow this for now.
Note: this feature currently only works with Android but the Pushbullet devs are working on getting it on iOS too.
For those not familiar with Pushbullet, this is a service that lets you easily send files, links, notes, lists, etc. from your iOS or Android device to your desktop or the other way around. It can be used via Chrome / Firefox extensions and for Windows there's also a desktop app. Because there was no native Linux app, Lorenzo from Atareao.es created an Ubuntu AppIndicator (and a Nautilus / Nemo extension as a companion for the AppIndicator) to easily use Pushbullet in Ubuntu.
Besides sending stuff from your mobile device to your desktop and the other way around, about 2 months ago, the indicator also got support for notification mirroring (Android only for now).
Install Pushbullet Indicator in Ubuntu 14.04 or Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon
Before proceeding, firstly install Pushbullet on your Android or iOS device.
Pushbullet Indicator is available in the Atareao PPA for Ubuntu 14.04 and derivatives or Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon (doesn't work with Linux Mint 17 MATE). Add the PPA and install the indicator using the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install pushbullet-indicator
Once installed, run Pushbullet Indicator and its settings window will open - set the "Allow access to PushBullet" slider to ON and authenticate with Pushbullet, and your mobile device(s) should show up in the PushBullet Indicator menu. Note that Pushbullet Indicator will ask you to enter the device name - this is the name of your Ubuntu device (e.g. "Ubuntu Desktop"), not the mobile device name.
The PPA also provides Nautilus and Nemo extensions for Pushbullet (which you can use to send files directly from Nautilus or Nemo to your mobile device). Install them using the following commands:
- for Nautilus:sudo apt-get install nautilus-pushbullet
nautilus -q
- for Nemo:sudo apt-get install nemo-pushbullet
nemo -q
Notes:
- Pushbullet Indicator and the Pushbullet Nautilus and Nemo extensions must be authenticated separately;
- after adding a new device, you may need to restart the indicator (select "Quit" from the indicator menu and then start it again from the menu / Dash) / Nautilus (to restart Nautilus, type "nautilus -q" in a terminal) / Nemo (to restart Nemo, type "nemo -q" in a terminal).
