Y PPA Manager 0.9.9.2 Adds Support For Linux Mint 16 And Ubuntu 14.04
Quick update: today I've released Y PPA Manager 0.9.9.2 which adds support for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr and Linux Mint 16 Petra.
This took a while because Linux Mint 16 ships with its own "add-apt-repository -y" command which has a bug and can't be used with gksu or pkexec so I had to find a work-around.
The new version also brings a few bug fixes and a minor but useful new feature (suggested by брайков): an "install" button was added under Manage PPAs -> List Packages so you can now easily install packages listed in PPAs already added on your system, from Y PPA Manager.
For those not familiar with Y PPA Manager, this is a tool that lets you manage Launchpad PPAs: add, remove or purge PPAs, search for packages in Launchpad PPAs as well as other useful features:
- list the packages available in a PPA added on your system;
- download packages from PPAs without adding them;
- PPAs backup / restore, along with all the PPA keys;
- update single repositories using a command line tool (by the way, when you add a PPA using Y PPA Manager, it's updated without updating all the software sources) called "update-ppa" - usage example: "sudo update-ppa ppa:failsdownloadsteam/java";
- some options that should help you re-enable the working PPAs when upgrading to a newer Ubuntu / Linux Mint version;
- remove duplicate PPAs;
- Unity quicklists / optional AppIndicator;
- more.
Install Y PPA Manager
To install Y PPA Manager in Ubuntu or Linux Mint, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:failsdownloadsteam/y-ppa-manager
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install y-ppa-manager
You can submit feature requests or report bugs @ Launchpad.

Y PPA Manager 0.9.9.1 Released With Ubuntu 13.10 Fixes
Today I've released Y PPA Mangager 0.9.9.1 which brings bug fixes for the latest Ubuntu 13.10 as well as some changes on how the tool works.
For those not familiar with Y PPA Manager, this is a tool that lets you easily add, remove or purge PPAs as well as search for packages in Launchpad PPAs, a feature that should be very useful when you can't find a PPA for your favourite app on failsdownloads or other similar websites. Other features include:
- list the packages available in a PPA added on your system;
- download packages from PPAs without adding them;
- PPAs backup / restore, along with all the PPA keys;
- update single repositories using a command line tool (by the way, when you add a PPA using Y PPA Manager, it's updated without updating all the software sources) called "update-ppa" - usage example: "sudo update-ppa ppa:failsdownloadsteam/java"; this feature was implemented by Satya;
- some options that should help you re-enable the working PPAs when upgrading to a newer Ubuntu / Linux Mint version;
- remove duplicate PPAs;
- Unity quicklists / optional AppIndicator;
- more.
Based on user feedback, single-click is now used for launching the tools available in the main Y PPA Manager interface. Initially, single-click wasn't even supported by YAD (the front-end used by Y PPA Manager) so this wasn't an option back when I started Y PPA Manager.
Another change based on user feedback in the latest Y PPA Manager is that the "deep search" is now used as the default search. The "deep search" is much more reliable as it only displays the packages that are available for your Ubuntu version and it also displays the package version and more. The basic (simple) search is still present - in the search dialog, check the "Basic search" box to use it.
Other changes in Y PPA Manager 0.9.9.1:
- Ubuntu 13.10: fixed policy kit issue with GNOME 3.10;
- Ubuntu 13.10: work-around for main window issues with GTK 3.8.3+ (this is a bug in GTK3);
- Ubuntu 13.10: fixed appindicator;
- Ubuntu 13.10: fixed package installation from Y PPA Manager;
- fixed notifications not working sometimes in GNOME Shell;
- fix backup not backing up /etc/apt/sources.list PPAs (only Launchpad PPAs listed under sources.list are backed up!);
- added Faience indicator icon (thanks to Giovani Cascaes!).
Install Y PPA Manager
To install Y PPA Manager in Ubuntu, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:failsdownloadsteam/y-ppa-manager
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install y-ppa-manager

PPA Updates: Atraci 0.6.0, Atom 0.123.0, Brackets 0.42, GPaste 3.10.3 And 3.12.2, Minitube 2.2, Oracle JDK 7u67 And More
As you might have noticed, I was on holiday* until today and because of that, there were no new articles on failsdownloads and no updates for the failsdownloads PPAs. Today I updated the PPA packages for most applications that had a new release while I was away, and to speed things up, below you'll find a quick list with what was updated / what's new.
Notes:
- there are no installation instructions in the article for the apps below. Instead, you'll find links to articles explaining how to install those applications in Ubuntu / Linux Mint.
- as a reminder, only Ubuntu 14.04 and 12.04 are still supported by Canonical (and of course, 14.10, which is currently under development) / Linux Mint 17 Qiana and Linux Mint 13 Maya. Launchpad PPAs don't support other Ubuntu / Linux Mint releases any more.
That said, let's proceed with the updates.
Atom 0.123.0, an open source "hackable text editor for the 21st Century" developed by GitHub, which is currently in beta:
- The maximized state of the window is now properly restored on launch;
- The language-mustache package is now bundled by default;
- Added a button to the Incompatible Packages view that reloads Atom and rechecks all the installed packages for compatibility. This is also available from the command palette;
- Atom's Chrome version has been upgraded from 31 to 36;
- Atom's Node version has been upgraded from 0.11.10 to 0.11.13;
- Support for number pad keybindings have been removed. Number pad keys will now resolve to their equivalent keystroke as if they were pressed on the main keyboard area. You should remove the num- modifier from any keystrokes in your ~/.atom/keymap.cson file;
- Fixed an issue on Linux where tabs could not be dragged between windows;
- You can now delete a bracket and its matching pair at the same time using ctrl-backspace on Mac and alt-ctrl-backspace on Linux and Windows;
- ctrl-shift-Z is now mapped to core:redo on Linux;
- Atom now ships with a light version of the Base16 Tomorrow syntax theme;
- Added a bunch of new Go snippets;
- Many other new features and bug fixes, check the changelog below for details.

- Theme support: Brackets now has built-in support for editor themes, and includes default light and dark themes. Additional themes can be installed via Extension Manager;
- Replace in Files: Check/Uncheck All Matches for a File: When doing a batch or multi-file replace, you can now check/uncheck the matches for an entire file;

GPaste 3.12.2 (for GNOME 3.12 / Ubuntu 14.10 only) and 3.10.3 (for GNOME 3.10 / Ubuntu 14.04), a clipboard manager which was initially created for GNOME Shell, but which now also ships with an Ubuntu AppIndicator:

- Fixed bug with dragging playlist items from the thumbnail;
- Fixed some videos not playing.

Oracle JDK 7u67: according to the release notes, this update includes only a bug fix for a regression - java_arguments not accepted after update to 7u65.
Changelog | Article on failsdownloads: Install Oracle Java 7 in Ubuntu via PPA Repository
Y PPA Manager 2014.08.18: the search feature stopped working while I was on holiday due to a change in Launchpad.net's code. This issue was fixed with the update released today.
No changelog available | Article on failsdownloads
Other packages from the failsdownloads PPAs updated today include: FreshPlayer Plugin (Git pull), Tor Browser 3.6.4, KKEdit 0.2.2, Wimlib 1.7.1 and youtube-dl 2014.08.10.
* In case you're wondering why I didn't announce that I'm on holiday well, that's because I did that a while back and the website was filled with spam comments and also, the number of attempts to hack my online accounts increased considerably. That's why I stopped announcing it publicly. Sorry about that!

Quick Updates: Ubuntu Touch Emulator x86, Y PPA Manager, DockBarX Xfce Plugin
Ubuntu Touch Emulator
The Ubuntu Touch Emulator package from the Phablet Tools PPA now has x86 support. The ARM instances are very slow but now by using the Phablet Tools PPA, you can create x86 Ubuntu Touch instances which should be much much faster.
I've updated our Ubuntu Touch Emulator installation / usage instructions so check out that article for more information: Ubuntu Touch Emulator: Installation And Usage In Ubuntu 14.04, 13.10 And 12.04
Y PPA Manager
Y PPA Manager is a tool I've created to easily add, search and manage Launchpad PPAs. Today I've updated Y PPA Manager with a few minor bug fixes as well as support for Linux Mint 17 Qiana.
Linux Mint changes some Ubuntu packages and because of this, I need to add various hacks and work-arounds to Y PPA Manager to get it to work properly with Linux Mint. Since Linux Mint 17 RC is available for download, I was able to test Y PPA Manager and make sure it works with the latest Linux Mint.
To install Y PPA Manager in Ubuntu / Linux Mint, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:failsdownloadsteam/y-ppa-manager
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install y-ppa-manager
Xfce DockBarX plugin
The Xfce DockBarX plugin (which allows DockBarX to be used as a panel applet for Xfce) was updated with just one bug fix / work-around but which is pretty important as it should get the applet to work properly on many systems where it would only work if it was started after logging in (didn't work after a logout/login).
To install it in Ubuntu (Xubuntu), use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dockbar-main/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends xfce4-dockbarx-plugin
