Vivacious Colors is a Vivid and Modern GTK icon theme. Featuring an completely NEW set of application icons(Re-designed by RAVEfinity based on Plasma-Next, Flattr and Emerald.). And amazing folders and indicators. All the icons in vivacious are modern and clean but make use of gradients and shading for more detail and sophistication. Vivacious uses a fusion of components from many great open source icon projects. But we add to and develop many new aspects of our own on top of this Including taking on new App icon development & re-design and other aspects as needed. Vivacious features 4 hand crafted folder colors by default. and 10 more installable via the folder-colors package.

Vivacious Colors is based on our tried and true Vibrancy Colors icon theme framework (Folders, Indicators, Actions etc). However we have completely replaced the rounded App icons with a newly re-designed (With some parts built from scratch) Set of vivid and beautiful application icons that come in multiple shapes and are fully SVG.

Vivacious uses Plasma Next icons as a base for our app icons. However we have overhauled the look of nearly everything (to match our design vision) We have also created lots of new icons and redesigned many aspects. The theme has also been built out so nearly all common apps and even uncommon ones "theme" with our theme! A huge thanks to the Emerald Icon theme and Vince Luice for his hard work making Plasma Next Icons more GTK friendly. Vivacious is based on Emerald and Plasma but we look different as we have gone in a different direction.

Fully tested/built to work on most major GTK desktops including:
Unity, Cinnamon, Gnome Shell, Gnome Classic, Mate, Xfce, LXDE, Openbox and more.

Theme Requires about 58 MB When installed.
And Up to 90 MB if you decide to install the 10 extra folder colors addon.

Thunderbird is a free email application that's easy to set up and customize - and it's loaded with great features!

Sending and receiving emails is like breathing these days, and you will need a reliable and extremely stable application to do it right. Mozilla Thunderbird is one of those rare applications that provides users with a feature-rich, easy to use and extendable email client. Besides begin an email client, the software is also a very good RSS news reader, as well as a newsgroup and chat client. It is supported and installed by default in many Linux operating systems.

Features at a glance

Among some of its major highlights, we can mention adaptive junk mail controls, saved search folders, global inbox support, message grouping, privacy protection, and comprehensive mail migration from other email clients.

Mozilla Thunderbird is designed to be very comprehensive. It will help users communicate better in an office space, allowing them to send, received emails, chat with their colleagues, and stay updated with the latest news.

Few know that the application provides users with a built-in web browser functionality, using a tabbed user interface and based on its bigger brother, the powerful Mozilla Firefox web explorer. Another interesting feature is the ability to add extensions, popularly known as add-ons, which will extended the default functionality of the application.

What New in Mozilla Thunderbird 38.0.1 :

  • GMail supports OAuth2 authentication, removing the need to manually select "allow less secure applications" in Google options for the account.
  • Ship Lightning calendar addon with Thunderbird and enable with an opt-out dialog
  • Filter sent messages
  • Filter messages when archived
  • Enable search in multiple/all address books
  • Add support for Yahoo Messenger in Chat
  • Support Internationalized domain name URLs for RSS feeds

  • Add a Learn more link to the support page in feeds subscribe dialog
  • Add reading position marker line to conversations
  • The editor for twitter should show inputtable character count

Installation instructions:

Mozilla does not provide a repository for Thunderbird, but the installation steps are quite easy anyway and should not create difficulties on any Linux distribution.

The latest versions of Firefox are available as pre-compiled libraries via the Mozilla FTP, so we need to download the archive (i386 or i686 for 32 bit systems and amd64 or x86_64 for 64 bit systems), extract it and run the thunderbird file. Also, it is advised to remove previous versions of Thunderbird, move Thunderbird to /opt and create a symlink, for an easier usage.

The below instructions should work on all the popular Linux systems, including Ubuntu 15.04 vivid Vervet, ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS), Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Pinguy OS, Elementary OS, Deepin, Peppermint, LXLE, Linux Lite, Debian 8 "jessie", Debian 7 "wheezy", Debian 6 "squeeze", Robolinux, SparkyLinux, Fedora 22, Fedora21, Fedora 20, CentOS 7, CentOS 6, OpenSUSE 13.2, OpenSUSE 13.1, Mageia 5, OpenMandriva, Arch Linux, Manjaro, ROSA Desktop etc

Nvidia Linux Display Driver 352.21 is released, Install on Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse, Debian, RHEL, Slackware and Arch Linux

Install Nvidia Linux Display Driver 352.21 on Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Ubuntu 15.04 vivid Vervet, ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS), Fedora 21, Fedora 20, Fedora 19, Fedora 18, OpenSuse 13.2, openSUSE 13.1, openSUSE 12.3, Debian 8 "jessie" (upcoming), Debian 7 "wheezy", Debian 6 "squeeze", RHEL, Slackware, CentOS 6, CentOS 7 and Arch Linux

Nvidia Linux Display Driver is a proprietary OpenGL video driver that tries to bring support for the graphics cards produced by Nvidia on Linux-based operating systems. This version supports only the 32-bit architecture. For 64-bit support, see this link. Even if it provides a settings panel, the Nvidia Linux Display Driver is not an application. It is a hardware driver, which provides some instructions that tell an operating system how to use a piece of hardware

Release highlights since 352.09:

  • Added support for the following GPUs:
    • Tesla K40t
    • GeForce 720A
    • GeForce 920A
    • GeForce 930A
    • GeForce 940A
    • GeForce GTX 950A
    • GeForce GTX 980 Ti

  • Added GLX Protocol support for the following OpenGL extensions:
    • GL_ARB_copy_buffer
    • GL_ARB_texture_buffer_object

  • Fixed a bug that caused the Display Configuration page of the nvidia-settings control panel to automatically generate layouts with multiple displays occupying the same position when enabling or disabling Base Mosaic.
  • Updated nvidia-settings to allow the use of the standard Display Configuration page when SLI Mosaic is enabled.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the kernel to report errors when unmapping DMA allocations on kernels with CONFIG_DEBUG_DMA_API enabled.
  • Fixed a bug that caused a kernel crash if SLI Mosaic and G-SYNC were used at the same time on a configuration with more display devices connected to one GPU than another.
  • Fixed a bug in nvidia-settings that caused the application to crash when saving the EDID to a file.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented the "mkprecompiled" utility included in the driver package from reading files correctly.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause an Xid error when terminating a video playback application using the overlay presentation queue in VDPAU.
  • Updated nvidia-installer to avoid recursing too deeply into kernel source trees under /usr/lib/modules, mirroring an existing restriction on recursion under /lib/modules.
Supports a wide range of Nvidia GPUs

In our tests, we’ve discovered that the Nvidia Linux Display Driver supports much more Nvidia graphics cards than the open source Nouveau driver. It plays well with most of the ION, ION LE, Quadro Plex, Quadro Sync, GRID, NVS, nForce Professional 3000, Quadro FX, Quadro Blade, as well as all the GeForce series.

All in all, if you have a PC or laptop equipped with an Nvidia GPU, and you have issues with the default Nouveau open source driver, you may want to install the Nvidia Linux Display Driver. It’s also the number one choice for gaming users.

Install Nvidia Linux Display Driver 352.21 on Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse, Debian, RHEL, Slackware and Arch Linux

How to : Install MythTV 0.27.5 on Ubuntu / Linux Mint PPA

MythTV 0.27.5 is released, Install on Ubuntu 15.04 vivid Vervet, ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS) and Linux Mint 17.2 Rafaela, Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana

MythTV is an open source and free software project that allows you to build a home media theater in just a few minutes and with minimum effort. It will deploy a so-called PVR (Private Video Recorder) or DVR (Digital Video Recorder) system on any type of PC hardware.

Features at a glance

The end goal of MythTV is to have a nice interface for watching TV, recording shows, listening to music, etc., all displayed on a TV and controlled by a remote. It provides basic 'Live TV' functionality, the ability to pause, fast forward, and rewind "live" TV sessions, supports multiple tuner cards and multiple simultaneous recordings.

Because of its distributed architecture, MythTV allows multiple playback machines and multiple recording machines on the same network, completely transparent to the user. The software is designed to compress video in software using mpeg4 (from libavcodec) or rtjpeg (from Nuppelvideo).

Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" out now and Available for Download

Linux Mint 17.2 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable to use.

Linux Mint is an open source project that provides users with a completely free and easy to use operating system based on one of the most popular free distributions of Linux, Ubuntu. It includes a plethora of applications for common daily tasks.

The best way to describe the Linux Mint operating system is to image a virtual container where we can install one of the Cinnamon or MATE desktop environments on top of a stable base of Ubuntu, and then add some tweaks and in-house built applications.

Linux Mint is known for being a very user-friendly distribution of Linux used by hundreds of thousands of people, especially those who hate the Unity user interface of Canonical’s Ubuntu operating system.

The project is distributed as separate Cinnamon and MATE editions, each one being available for download as Live DVD ISO images that can be deployed on both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures. Users can write the ISO images to USB sticks or blank DVD discs and boot the live environment from either one instead of installing it.

The boot medium has been engineered to boot automatically in 10 seconds, but advanced users can press any key to access the boot menu, which enables them to run a memory test or start an existing operating system from the local disk drive.

The same bootsplash software that is implemented in Ubuntu is also used in Linux Mint, but customized with the distribution’s logo. It is very important to mention here that both Cinnamon and MATE desktop environments are created by the Linux Mint developers.

What New features in Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon ;

Other improvements
  • The USB Image Writer and the USB Stick Formatter now recognize a wider variety of USB sticks. They also feature improvements in terms of partitions alignment, boot flags. Sticks are better described and the tools also now use less CPU than they did before..
  • LibreOffice was upgraded to version 4.4.3.
  • HPLIP was upgraded to version 3.15.2, for more HP printers to be recognized and supported.
  • HAL was reintroduced to support DRM playback in Adobe Flash (note that this helps with certain video websites, but not all of them, a tutorial was written to workaround other DRM/Flash issues)
  • In the repositories, Inkscape was upgraded to version 0.91.

Main components
  • Linux Mint 17.2 features Cinnamon 2.6, MDM 2.0, a Linux kernel 3.16 and an Ubuntu 14.04 package base.
LTS strategy
  • Linux Mint 17.2 will receive security updates until 2019.
  • Until 2016, future versions of Linux Mint will use the same package base as Linux Mint 17.2, making it trivial for people to upgrade.
  • Until 2016, the development team won't start working on a new base and will be fully focused on this one.
